Have been meaning to knock up the Bowman Motor for a while now and realised
while doing other stuff that keeps me away from the workshop grrrrrr, that I
could happily leave the CNC machine running in the background cutting out the
pieces, especially the Coggs as they will take a while.
So I have decided to try the Bowman Machine.
A few people have tried replicating it before and there is a excellent page at
The Flying Dutchmans site that covers everything from the history of it, to the
replications. http://www.fdp.nu/bowman/
I am using the Metric dimensions from the Flying Dutchmans site.
I tried to source Spur gears that were 90mm pitch and 45mm pitch with 70 and 35
teeth but could not find them, so first thing to do is leave the CNC machine
running and mill some out of 8mm Delrin.
Rotors were then cut out and tapped.
This will then let me use 3mm brass countersunk screws.
These then mount some nice neo disks perfectly.
All 3 Rotors and Gears ready for mounting.
Next was the base.
Then the sides
Then joined it all together.
Next I cut to length and lathed down some threaded rod.
Perfect fit and they are so loose but with no movement back and forth, took a
long time on the lathe shaving 0.2 mil off at a time, but worth it.
I lined up the Gears to see if I got it right and again
perfect fit.
I am now waiting for the Brass Nuts to arrive and also some different
magnets.
Here is a video testing it with Steel Nuts and washers for now to check
alignment.
Sorry I am not posting the results of my experiments as
this would take too much time.
But when I have something I can shout about and that works 100%, then be assured
I will post an update.
For now this is just a Blog as such of what I am working on.
